GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION OF LADIRIN ESTATE, ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE USING VERTICAL ELECTRICAL SOUNDING (VES) RESISTIVITY METHOD

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the groundwater potential in Ladirin Estate, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, using Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) resistivity methods. The research focuses on characterizing the subsurface layers, identifying aquifers, and determining the best locations for boreholes. Fifteen VES points were evaluated, and the resistivity data was analyzed using Winresist software. The results revealed five geoelectric layers: topsoil, sand/lateritic sand, dry sand, aquifer (sand), and deeper dry sand. The aquifer unit was identified at depths ranging from 76.4 m to 149.2 m. The findings suggest poor groundwater potential, with borehole drilling recommended between 100 m and 180 m.
