Impact of Climate Change on Livelihoods Security in Kajiado County from 2008-2018

The main objective of this study was to make a contribution in the direction of efforts to lessen the vulnerability of the people of Kajiado County in light of the rising effects of global climate change taking place in their environments. The specific objectives included the following: To establish social-cultural adaptations necessitated by climate change in Kajiado County; to establish economic adaptations necessitated by climate change in Kajiado County; to assess the relevance of policy responses to climate change on community livelihoods in Kajiado County. Qualitative method of research was used, with the aid of secondary data. The study concludes that dynamics of economic and political marginalization, active resistance by resident communities to assimilation, resource depletion and demographic changes are proving to be a great impediment to any forward action that might aid in the fight for livelihood security in light of climate change. The study recommends more sustainability than immediacy when it comes to solutions toward achieving livelihoods security in Kajiado County.
