Knowledge And Determinants Of Contraceptive Use Among Women Of Reproductive Age In Nigeria

Abstract

Lack of contraceptives use is major concerns not only in Sub-Saharan Africa but

also in many other developing countries in the world especially in Nigeria.

Therefore, this study assess the factors that determines contraceptive useamong

couples in Nigeria, Data were obtained from 2013 NDHS, and weighted sample of

38,676. Univariate result showed that the socio demographic factor is significant

with the contraceptive use.

The bivariate analysis revealed that there is a significant association between

socio-demographic characteristics and contraceptive use.

Results of the multivariate analysis, From the binary logistic regressron, the

relationship between socio demographic characteristics and contraceptive use is

statistically significant in (P< 0.05), showed that there is a significant relationship

between socio-demographic characteristics( age of women, place of resident, level

of education, ethnicity, region, religion, wealth index, occupation) and

contraceptive use. In conclusion, without any doubt that there is significant

influence of socio-demographic characteristics of women age 15-49 years on

contraceptive use p-value less than 0.05. I recommend that there should be further

studies on contraceptive use among women in Nigeria.
