Knowledge Attitudes and Practice to Sanitation Facilities among Secondary Students in Sokoto Metropolis

Sanitation is one of the most important aspects of community well-being because it protects human health, extends life spans, and is essential to provide benefits to the economy. Sanitation (e.g. toilets, latrines, mechanized wastewater treatment) is currently deployed as a way to contain and/or treat human excreta (and in some cases grey water) to protect human health and the environment. “Improved” (now referred to as “basic” since 2015) access to sanitation is defined as one that separates “human excreta from human contact” in a hygienic manner (e.g. flush toilet, ventilated improved pit latrine (VIP), piped sewer systems, composting toilets, and septic systems) A safe sanitation service involves the use of improved sanitation facilities that are not shared with other households and excreta is treated in-situ or offsite.The aim of this study isto assess and evaluate knowledge, attitude and practice of environmental sanitation among student

This is a cross-sectional study to measure knowledge, attitudes and practices of sanitation hygiene, structural observation and face to face interview. Probability sampling method was employed in which every unit in the population has a chance (non-zero probability) of being selected in the sample, and this chance was determined by simple random samplingwhich was drawn from a population of units in such a way that every member of the population has the same probability of selection and different units are selected independently. From this research it show that the student has foreknow knowledge on sanitation facilities but the attitudes and perception to its practice is still low as this can cause a lot of issues in the ommediate environment. More awareness campaign should organise to training and encourage the student to always practice safe and effective sanitation in their environment.
