Abstract:
Paleo-environmental study of Achara-Ugwueme in Anambra Basin was studied using Textural analysis parameters, which includes paleocurrent analysis, sieve analysis and pebble morphological methods. The paleocurrent result shows that the variance value is 1701 which indicates that the units were deposited in fluvial environment. The azimuth with rose diagram suggested southwesterly direction of paleocurrent during the time of deposition, thus pacing the provenance at northeast, probably the Calabar Basement Complex. The sieve analysis suggested that the study area is basically medium to coarse grained, poorly to moderately sorted sandstone, very fine skewed to symmetrical and lepokortic to mesokortic, while the pebble morphological analysis suggested that the study area were mainly shaped in zone of intercalation between shallow marine and fluvial processes. To this effect, Isuochi pebbles are most probably of Lower to Upper Coastal Plain. Generally, the results suggested that the paleoenvironment of the study is a fluvial dominated, marine influence environment with tidal action.
