ABSTRACT
The study was designed to investigate perceived problems and academic need achievement motivation among students in School of Nursing UCTH Calabar in Cross River State, Nigeria. Survey design was used. Two standardized instruments were used to collect data from all the 194 students in School. Ten objectives were used to guide the study. Analysis of data was done with the aid of SPSS version 21. Results showed that nursing students under the different age groups and at varying class levels had significant perceived personal physiological, social relationship, financial, family and school adjustment problems. Factors such worrying about marks (M=3.27, SD=1.03), too few student clubs and societies (M=2.76, SD=0.78), wanting to earn some money of their own (M=3.32, SD=1.12), wanting love and affection (M=2.86, SD=1.02), and too much work required in some courses/subjects (M=3.51, SD=0.82) were identified as major perceived problems.The findings from the study revealed that a positive relationship between personal psychological problems and academic need achievement motivation (r=.230, p
