Problems And Solutions Of Sanitation In Hospitals Case Study: Ebrahim Malik Teaching Hospital

Sanitation is one of the issues that the world cares about lately because of its negative effects on the environment and society especially when it is discharged into rivers and seas without treatment where it affects the fish, agricultural and animal resources. In addition, waste water from hospitals contains many infectious and dangerous compounds, which must be properly treated and then disposed of within the sewerage network. The study aimed to address the problem of the sewage system used in the hospital and its effects on the environment and society, and come out with a design suitable for treatment of waste water from hospitals and how to treat and eliminate them. The importance of this study lies in the design of a system of exchange according to international standards, which enables the relevant parties to benefit from it and apply it in facilities that suffer from the same problems. The research found that the capacity of the current septic tanks is less than the required capacity by about 30%. The analysis process is not carried out in the required manner, since the medical surgeons are discharged in the waste water. The study also recommends that the hospital should be connected to the public network, and involved from the existing drainage lines and manholes, and paying attention to its follow-up, and that there be a system of periodic maintenance of the drainage system in order to identify the problems and solve them.
