School Boards And Head Teachers’ Management Of Selected Secondary Schools In Nachingwea District, Tanzania

ABSTRACT

This study entitled school boards and headteachers’ management of Selected Secondary

Schools, was carried out in Nachingwea District, Tanzania. It comprised of the following

objectives: to determine the profile of the respondents as to age, education qualification and

occupation; to examine the extent of the role of school boards; to determine the extent of the

~nanagement of selected secondary schools in Nachingwea district; and to establish the

elationship between the roles of school boards and the management of selected secondary

;chools in Nachingwea district, Tanzania. The researcher employed a descriptive research

iesign. The target population was 134 respondents, and a total of 100 respondents were

)urposely and randomly selected from 10 secondary schools.

The findings of the study showed that majority of the respondents were male and

najority were Diploma holders. The extent of the role of school boards was high, with a mean

f 2.96; the extent of head teachers’ management of schools was high (mean=3.00); and that

here was a significant relationship between school boards and head teachers’ management of

elected secondary schools (p- value= 0.05). It was recommended that schools should employ

~ore qualified and experienced teachers, that the members of school boards should belatively educated, and that the head teachers should give more time to their schools.
