Forrest says that even stronger conclusions
about these two (science and religion) are controversial (45). The view that
science can be demarcated from religion in its methodological naturalism is
more commonly accepted. Pennock argued that Intelligent Design, in its appeal
to supernatural mechanisms, was not methodologically naturalistic, and that
methodological naturalism is an essential component of science—though it is not
a dogmatic requirement, it flows from reasonable evidential requirements, such
as the ability to test theories empirically.
