THE EFFECT OF DENSITY VARIATION ON THE EARTH’S STABILITY OVER SOUTH-WESTERN NIGERIA

This research work is meant to determine the Earth’s stability from gravity anomalies and to provide diverse explanations for a wide range of physical observations and also highlight the factors affecting the stability of the Earth.

Information from geodesy (shape of the Earth) and the gravitational field of the Earth studies have been fitted together to produce the complex factors affecting the stability of the Earth. This is obtained by developing a mathematical model of the geoid height equation expressed in harmonic expansion to degree 0 and order 360 and exploring satellite gravity data through a suite of numerical simulation. The gravity data generated will be used to plot a 3-Dimensional gravity anomaly contours which can then be interpreted using the inversion method.
