THE TREND OF CRIME AND STRATEGIES OF CRIME PREVENTION IN CHUKUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KADUNA STATE.

ABSTRACT

The twenty first century Nigeria is confronted with pervasive crime wave. In the cities, hoodlums unleash terror on unsuspecting citizens, and bandits are reported to man many Nigeria link roads. Both the print and non-print media suggest that crime is a growing industry in Nigeria. Judging by the upsurge in pervasive insecurity such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, assault, theft of various items, burglary and kidnapping, public commentators have tended to regard Nigeria as a failing state which is incapable of providing security for the lives and property of its citizens. Crime is a major socio-economic problem in contemporary Nigerian society. Understandably, it has, over the years, attracted considerable attention from all members of the society and stakeholders, including individual citizens, groups, corporate organizations, the government at various levels, as well as the international community. The purpose of this study was to examine the trend of crime and strategies of crime prevention in Chukun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The study was to determine the trend of crime, the reasons for the crime trend and the strategies of crime prevention.
