ABSTRACT
The purpose of the study was to determine the prevalence of vaginal candidiasis in pregnant women in Kampala international university teaching hospital ante-natal clinic. Permission was sought from the research and ethics committee of Kampala international university western campus and the hospital administration.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out using 260 pregnant women who attended the antenatal clinic from June 2013—May 2014 in the specified hospital. The prevalence of vaginal candidiasis in pregnant women was determined using ante-natal records and was analyzed using SPSS. The results showed that the total number of patients within one year in the clinic
who had vaginal candidiasis was 118 and those who weren’t infected were 142 and the young mothers of the age group of 16-25 were the most affected with 47.3% compared to the elderly mother’s of age group 36-45 with 10.8 It is thus important that the medical workers in Kampala international university teaching hospital ante-natal clinic promptly diagnose and effectively treat the disease in pregnant women.
