A Survey of Factors Which Influence Teachers' Use of Computerised Technology in Secondary Schools, Lukuli-Naganda Zone, Makindye Divison, Kampala District

ABSTRACT

The aims of the study was to survey the of factors which influence teachers’ use of computer-based technology in secondary schools in Lukuli-Naganda zone, Makindye division, Kampala district Uganda. It was based on the following objectives: To examine the factors which influence teachers’ use of computer-based technology in teaching computer studies, to assess the currentpractices in the use of computer-based technology since the previous studies were conducted, and to assess availability of instructional materials in teachingof computer studies. The research design was cross sectional, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected to get a clear understanding of the factors which influence teachers’ use of computer-based technology in teaching computer studies.Purposive sampling technique was used to get information from teachers. Datawas collected by use of questionnaires, frequency tables and graphs wereworked out basing on the data entered into excel package. In this frequencytables and graphs, analysis was done with corresponding percentages inresponse to the research question of the study.This survey found that computer access in the classroom influenced the frequency of use for some instructional activities. Lack of Internet access and obsolete computer equipment resulted in a negative influence to the teacher’s use of computer-based technology in the classroom. Teachers also expressed a desire for a continuous type of training program for the use of computers.
