Bioterrorism and it's Public Health Implications

This paper is aimed at creating awareness among health professionals including health educators on the dangers posed by bioterrorism to public health and how the health care and education system could be used to avert a bioterrorist attack or mitigate the effect in the face of an attack. Biological terrorism otherwise called bioterrorism has been noted to be more likely than ever before and far more threatening than either explosives or chemicals. Biological weapon could be used by terrorist groups as a means to cause chaos, fear and panic as well as mass disruptions among people. The threat posed by terrorist organizations both locally and internationally cannot be overstated. Many governments the world over are threatened by one terrorist organization or the other. These groups could use biological agents which are categorized into three-A, B & C to cause widespread disease and epidemic that could devastate the health system of any nation. It is recommended that government at all levels should strengthen their health care delivery system to be able to respond effectively to any form of bioterrorist attack.
