Abstract: The study sought to determine the effect of planning and forecasting in business organization; an empirical assessment of Shoprite Polo Park, Enugu, South East, Nigeria was motivated by the need to provide solutions to the problem of planning and forecasting in business organization in South East, Nigeria. The study set out to accomplish the two specific objectives from which appropriate research questions and hypotheses were formulated. The study adopted survey design.
The population of the study was 1520 both senior and junior staff. A sample size of 100 was determined from the population using percentage and frequencies for this process. Pearson product moment correlation coefficient was used in testing the validity and the reliability of the research instrument. The result was 0.99 indicating a high degree of reliability. The hypothesis were tested using questionnaire and distribution analysis. The major findings of the study were that techniques on planning and forecasting have significant role in Nigeria business organization, planning and forecasting have positive relationship on profit in an organization. Based on the findings, these recommendations were made that, the enterprise should invest in capital in the areas of planning and forecasting and because of globalization, planning and forecasting has to gain way for best practice in global business.
