ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effects of Reality Therapy and Assertiveness Training on selected Psychosocial Problems of female prisoners in Lagos, Nigeria. It is equally important to note that the psychosocial problems in this study refer to low self-esteem, depression, unassertiveness social maladjustment and aggressiveness.
A quasi-experimental Pre-test, post-test, control group design was adopted for the study. The initial sample consisted of 244 females comprising all the 122 female prisoners at the Kirikiri Female Prison and a comparable group of 122 female non- prisoners drawn from Idi-Araba, Ajegunie and Mushin Areas of Lagos State. The final sample for the experiment consisted of 66 female prisoners.
Six research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Also, the six major instruments used to generate data for the study were:
1. Female Prisoners' Personal Data Questionnaire (FPPDQ),
2. Index of Self- Esteem (ISE),
3. Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS),
4.RathusAssertivenessScale (RS),
5.Social Maladjustment Scale (SMS),
6. Verbal Aggressive Scale (VAS).
Data generated were analyzed using descriptive data and independent t-test comparison, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Analysis of Covariance
