Factors Affecting The Teaching And Performance Of Science Subjects Thp Case Study Of Baringo District Secondary1 Schools, Kabartonjo Division, Kenya

ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to establish the ineffective teaching and performance of science

subjects. It was particularly sought to establish the factors that affect the teaching and

performance of science subjects in secondary school levels in Kenya. The study was conducted using survey design. The data was collected using questionnaires as the main tool from 40 respondents, from three main secondary schools in Kabarajonjo Division, Baringo District Kenya. Data was presented using tables and analyzed basing on percentage distribution technique. The study established that, there are factors that affect teaching and performance of science subjects which include lack of functional laboratories, lack of adequate science textbooks,

teacher learner ratio and lack of enough classrooms. All these would lead to poor

performance in science subjects. The study concludes that, learning and teaching of science subjects is almost becoming a rote memory exercise in secondary schools in Kenya. This is due to inavailability of resources and learning facilities and poor involvement of practical work. It recommends that equal

distribution of resources and learning facilities should be ensured and emphasized of practical work in secondary school level in Kenya.
