Influence of rock dust-based soil re- mineralisation on root-knot disease of organic watermelon plants

Deplorable soil fertility characterising resource-poor agrarian communities remain a major constraint for sustainable global food security. Re-mineralisation through appli- cation of rock dust encourages maintainable productivity of degraded soils. This study was planned to appraise the effect of rock dust on root-knot disease of Citrullus lanatus caused by Meloidogyne incognita (Mi). The experiment was laid out in Randomised Complete Block Design with three replications. Soil and root popula...

Vegetation Composition Related to Environmental Factors along the International Highway-West Alexandria, Egypt

The present study aimed to characterize the ecological features of the vegetation along theinternational coastal road from El-Ajami to Ras El-Hekma, West Alexandria, Egypt. The clusteranalysis of 60 stands was performed using the Community Analysis Package program and Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA). Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) was used to identify the ecological relationships between the vegetation and the environment along the roadside. The total number of the recorded p...

Vegetation and Species Diversity in the Northern Sector of Eastern Desert, Egypt

The study aims to assess the vegetation and plant diversity in relation to edaphic factors at three sites (Cairo- Suez, Ain Sokhnia-Makattam desert roads and Wadi Hagul) in northern sector of Eastern Desert. The results revealed that northern sector of Eastern Desert (The Galalah Desert) harbors had 95 species (36 annuals, two biennial and 57 perennials) with high taxonomic diversity (species/genera = 1.17 and genera/families = 3.12). The largest families were Asteraceae comprising 22 species...

Seed dormancy in palms

Seed dormancy in palms, date palm inclusive have continued to be challenging especially when cultivating through seeds. This study evaluated different methods of breaking dormancy and seed germination rate in P. dactylifera. Using Completely Randomize Design, two varieties of P. dactylifera were treated with three treatments comprising sulphuric acid, hot water, cold water and control. Result showed that all the three treatments significantly (p < 0.05) affect the germination rate and ear...
