CONSTRUCTION OF A MOTORIZED CASSAVA PEELING MACHINE

ABSTRACT  The motorized cassava peeling machine is a type of cassava peeling method that is adopted to reduce drudgery. In cassava peeling operations. This method, unlike the manual peeling method which consumes a lot of human power with subsequent low output produces or peels a large amount of cassava tubers within a small specific of time and small amount of flesh loss and finally low demand of power. this paper presents the design and constructing of a motorized cassava peeling machine th...

COMAPARISM OF THE EFFICIENCY OF SAWDUST, COCONUT FIBRE, WOOD CHIPS IN PURIFICATION CRUDE OIL POLLUTED WATER

ABSTRACT A comparative study was conducted among organic waste materials namely coconut fiber, hair, sawdust and woodchips as crude oil absorbents. Twenty grams of each of these materials were wrapped in a pouch and submerged into two set-ups, Set-up A: Pure Crude Oil and Set-up B: Crude Oil with seawater, for an hour. Amount of oil absorbed was gathered and recorded. ANOVA was conducted to verify if the results significantly differed.  The results show that hair had the highest amount of ab...

EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTS OF FLOODING ON THREE VARIETIES OF RICE (A CASE STUDY OF ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE)

ABSTRACT Flooding has been described as one of the most important environmental factors determining the distribution of salt marsh plants. We studied the impact of five water levels on the germination and establishment of the invasive cord-grass spartina deniflora. Plant house experiment was carried out to determine the effects of time and depth of flooding on the survival and growth of rice. Data showed that time and depth of flooding had significant effects on the survival and growth of ric...

EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTS OF ANTHROPOENIC ACTIVITIES AND DOMESTIC WASTE ON SURFACE WATER QUALITY (A CASE STUDY OF EKULU RIVER, ENUGU).

ABSTRACT The microbiological and organic pollutants characteristics of umuosoko stream in ikwuano local government area, Enugu state, Nigeria were carried out. Twenty water samples were collected from four different parts of the river.  The pour plate technique was employed for the isolation of micro-organisms. Colonial morphology, Gram staining and biochemical tests were used for identification and characterization. The statistical analyses used were analysis of variance and standard devia...

Design Construction and Performance Evaluation of a Model Waste Stabilization Pond

The study aimed at the design, construction and performance evaluation of a model Waste Stabilization Pond (WSP). The WSP comprised of one facultative pond and three maturation ponds all in series. The influent of the WSP after filtration through the lined sandy loam media (obtained from the premises of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria) had the BOD reduced to 22 mg/L from 356 mg/L indicating a 93.8% removal level. A faecal coli form count (fc) of the influent sample gave 1×1...

Design and Performance Evaluation of a Waste water Treatment Plant.

The study aimed at the design, construction and performance evaluation of a model domestic wastewater treatment plant was carried out. The treatment unit was a Waste Stabilization Pond (WSP) comprised of one facultative pond, three maturation ponds, and a contact filtration unit, all in series. The effluent of the WSP, after filtration through clay media, had the BOD reduced to 15.4mg/l, from 356mg/L indicating a 95.67% removal level. A Faecal Coliform (FC) count of the influent sample gave 1...
