Job Satisfaction, Organisational Climate And Psychological Wellbeing: A Study Among Contract Staff In Banking Institutions

ABSTRACT The study investigated the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing among contract staff in banking institutions. The moderating role of organisational climate on the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing was also assessed as well as the extent to which job insecurity moderates the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing. Lastly, the study examined the moderating role of tenure on the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing was also examined. Two hundred and forty-three (243) contract staff were sampled from two selected banks in Accra. The sample was made up of (121) men and (122) women who had worked for 6 months or over at the selected banking institutions. The study used a cross-sectional design in which respondents were required to respond to items on a set of questionnaires measuring demographic factors, job satisfaction, psychological wellbeing, organisational climate and job insecurity. Hierarchical multiple regression and standard linear multiple regression were used for analyzing the statistical data. The results indicated that there is a significant positive relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing. It also reveals that organisational climate moderates the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing. However, it was observed that job insecurity did not moderate the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing. Further, it was also reveals that tenure moderates the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological wellbeing. The findings and implications were discussed and recommendations made for future research.
