ABSTRACT
This study examined the effect of low payment on student’s academic performance in English subjects in secondary schools in Sacho district, Baringo County, Kenya. The objectives of the study were to identify and analyze the effects of low payment of teacher’s influence on academic performance, It also aimed at suggesting measures to remedy the situations. Qualitative and Quantitative Designs were employed where convenient sampling was used to select the students in the school used for the study. The main instruments used in the data collection were the questionnaires; the data collected was analyzed manually where the researcher used descriptive and qualitative analysis, which included percentages and frequencies. The findings of the study included among others the fact that girls in greater numbers want to know more about English topics whereas boys’ interests lay more in the mathematics Students lack knowledge of a range of English related Careers and this influences their decisions about whether to study English; and boys drop out of the English classes because teachers harass them. This research recommended among other things a Policy that should be a strategy towards the improvement of schools in this part of Kenya highlighted in this paper are addressing mainly to the Kenyan policy makers in general, and to the Ministry of Education.
