ABSTRACT
The study investigated the impact of preretirement counselling and retirement Stress perceptions of selected Secondary School teachers in Lagos. A quasi experimental pre-test post-test control group design was adopted for the study. Six research hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. Four of the hypotheses were accepted while two were rejected. One hundred and fifty (150) teachers from Education District IV made up of Apapa, Mainland and Surulere in Lagos State public schools were used for the study
The participants were randomly assigned to Reality Therapy (RT), Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) and the control group. Five validated instruments used to collect data were: Personal Data and Retirement Stress Questionnaire (PDRSQ), Life Satisfaction Index - Z (LSI - Z), Symptom Distress Checklist - 50 (SCL - 50), index of Self-Esteem (ISE) and Ego Identity Scale (EIS). The data were analysed using descriptive statistics such as means, and standard deviation as well as inferential statistics which included Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
