An Evaluation of Career Management in the media industry

ABSTRACT

Every dynamic environment requires that the organisations operating I them keep pace with the changes and also the requirements to survive. (Porter 2010). Armstrong (2012) relies on the efficacy and effectiveness plus the efficiency of the human resource as the key to establishing the mechanism of achieving survival and competition in a dynamic environment.

What every manager at top and middle management must know is that there is a need to have right people with the right skills for the organisation to achieve its competitive objectives. Career management is one of the tools that can be put to good use when handling with the development of personnel in Morden organisations and corporate bodies.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the career management system of the media companies operating in the central business district of Lusaka. The scope was centred on the radio stations. The researcher opted to maximise the research by concentrating on one of the major players in the media industry which is Radio Phoniex FM. This opted the researcher to undertake a case study approach for this study.

The findings of the research established the career management system undertaken at Radio Phoniex FM, the challenges met by managers when run the career management system. It did not just end there it looked at the challenges that subordinate employees were facing with the system. Recommended measures were also inculcated into the study. The recommended measures were centred on measures recommended by the managers and also the subordinate employees.
