THE CHRISTIAN IDENTITY IN A CORRUPT SOCIETY

This exegetical paper explores the issue of Christian identity against the backdrop of contemporary pluralistic society, defined by a multitude of traditions, views, and stances. It makes use of 1 Peter 2:9-10 to enable a fuller and theologically fruitful image of Christian identity. As MacFarland argues that Christian identity is a relational, dynamic, multifaceted, and open entity, characterized by its embeddedness in culture, its struggle to engage with power constructively, and its intentional effort of Christians to reach out to others (39). As such, the paper seeks make clear the identity of Christians from a scriptural stand and how the Christians are challenged by it.
