ABSTRACT The study was carried out in Ntungamo Municipality. Ntungamo District. It was intended to examine, explore and analyzed the effects of death and bereavement to an indi vidual. famil y and community. The first objective of the study was to find out the positive effects of death and bereavement to an individuaL family and community. The second study objective was to assess the challenges experienced by individuaL fami ly and community due to death and bereavement. And the third objective was to find out the possible strategies that should be adopted to avert the challenges experienced by individuaL famil y and community due to death and bereavement. The study took up a descripti ve and explanatory research designs. The study used both qualitative and quantitative methods. where research questions were used. Questionnaires and interview guides were used in the study. Purposive and simple random sampling was used to get a representative sample size of fifty respondents. The selected respondents included key informants and community members. Thematically, study findings were first coded and consequently arranged in themes and sub-themes. The study findings revealed that death and bereavement help individuaL family and community with developmental disabilities to go through the grieving process. reduce their emotional and behavioural expressions of grief, avert physical reactions like sleeping problems, changes in appetite, physical problems or illness. avert conscious. unconscious and cultural reaction to loss. towards the process of adj usting the experi ence of loss into on going life. cope up with cultural customs. norms. rituals and society's rules for copying with loss and avert major emotional crisis.
