ABSTRACT

The research was carried out in Maasai Mara National Park which found in Nairobi district-Kenya. This was therefore the area of the study. The research was about the impact of poverty on tourism development in Kenya. The study was guided by the objective of the study. The objectives included; analyzing the effects of the poverty to Kenyans National Parks, finding out the economic benefits of tourism in Kenya and suggesting the possible ways of developing Kenyan tourism. Chapter one of study of this research consisted of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, scope of the study, significance of the study, limitations of the study and conceptual framework. Chapter two consisted of introduction, Brief history of Control of tourism sector in Kenya, effects of poverty in Kenya's tourism development and the economic benefits of tourism in Kenya. Chapter three consisted of research design, geographical location/ area and population, sampling design, data collection methods and instruments, procedure, data analysis and processing. Chapter four is the presentation, analysis and discussion of the findings and it consisted of social demographic characteristics of the respondents, the effects of poverty on tourism development, the economic benefit tourism in Kenya, and the steps to be taken in order to improve tourism glory in Kenya. Chapter five is included the summary of the study, conclusions of the study, recommendations of the study and areas for further research. Recommendations and conclusions were then made after interpreting and analyzing data from the field.
