ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to measure the impact of training and development on employees‟ performance measuring the impact from some selected district offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme. Specifically, the objectives of the study were to establish the benefits that training and development of employees had on NHIS operations, to assess the effectiveness of the training and development programmes implemented by the NHIS for its employees and finally to recommend strategies that can be used to improve training and development programmes of employees at NHIS. This study followed the positivist world view accordingly quantitative methodology was adopted. The study employed non probability sampling and specifically purposive sampling was used to select the study participants. Subsequently, the study used the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sampling table to determine the sample size for the 150 population size. Based on the table, the sample size for the study stood at 108 with a 95% confidence interval and 5% error of margin. The study distributed 108 questionnaires to employees of the district offices of the Manhyia, Bantama, Subin and Nkawie National Health Insurance Schemes. From the questionnaires distributed, a total of 85 completed questionnaires were returned to the researcher. Out of these retrieved questionnaires, 79 were usable for analysis giving an effective response rate of 77.45%. Data was subsequently analysed using descriptive statistics such as Mean and Standard deviation. Findings from this study revealed that most of the respondents were of the view that the training and development programs organized by NHIS did not take into accounts the personal needs of the participants that is its employees, on this score it is recommended that the management of NHIS should take into consideration the personal needs of its employees when developing future training and development programs
