Dual Effects of Camel Bone (Bony Shuttle Pin) as Splint for Femoral Fractures and the Bone Marrow of Goats

Bony pin splints were obtained from slaughtered camel metacarpal bone and used successfully as intramedullary shuttle pin splint for repair of induced femoral fractures in 12 Goats without any additional external splint. Round pins were made from metacarpal bone of healthy and freshly Slaughtered camel. The bones were cleaned properly and cut with an electric saw into proper width slats, and then with an electric grindstone. Different sizes of pins were made with notch in one of its end...

The present work was conducted to investigate the clinical signs and pathological lesions of sheep botulism in River Nile at Al Butana area. Many outbreaks of botulism were detected in sheep in River Nile State. In 10406 sheep flocks, 879 were affected and 797 were died with morbidity rate 8.4% and mortality rate 7.6%. Mortality among infected sheep was 90.6%. The main symptoms were flaccid tetraparesis leading to tetraplegia that was often accompanied by twisted neck, tongue paralysis,...

Seroprevelance of Trypanosoma evansi infection in dairy cattle in Khartoum State, Sudan

Trypanosoma evansi parasite has a wide range of distribution throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. In this study we have investigated the prevalence of the disease in dairy cattle in Khartoum State, Sudan using the card agglutination test (CATT/T. evansi) which is recommended by OIE. Within 304 blood samples, antibodies against T. evansi were detected in 91 (29.9%). Antibodies against T. evansi were detected in 31 (31%) animals in Omdurman, 29 (28.4%) animals in Khar...

Studies on Clinical, Aetiological and Antibiotic Susceptibility of Mastitis in She-camel (Camelus dromedarius) in Butana area, Sudan

Abstract This study was performed to investigate the types of clinical mastitis among camel herds reared in Butana region. The effects of season, age, stage of lactation, number of calving on occurrence of mastitis causative agents and antibiotic sensitivity of the bacterial isolates from mastitic she-camel were included. The study also involved treatment trial in Tamboul area for selected cases of acute and chronic mastitis. The occurrence of clinical mastitis among 319 milking camels durin...

Relationship Between Helicobacter Pylori Seropositive Patients And Throat Infection

ABSTRACT The most common complaint among patients in the out-patient clinics are sore throat, and the most frequent diagnosis is chronic non-specific pharyngitis. Chronic pharyngitis is still controversial. Helicobacter pylori, besides being the major cause of chronic gastritis, might also be involved in playing role in the upper respiratory tract infection. This study aimed to determine the relationship between H. pylori infection and throat infection and its possible role in the etiology a...

The Influence Of Graded Dietary Energy On Dynamics Of Trypanosoma Congolense Infection In West African Dwarf Goats

ABSTRACT Malnutrition increases goats’ susceptibility to diseases thereby hindering their profitable production. Low calorie diet and infection have impact on health and survival of livestock. The influence of Graded Dietary Energy (GDE) on dynamics of Trypanosoma congolense (Tc) infection in goats is not fully elucidated. The influence of GDE levels on Tc infection in West African Dwarf (WAD) goats was therefore investigated. A preliminary survey for trypanosomes involving 675 goats was c...

Serovars and Renal Pathology of Leptospirosis in Dogs, Cattle and Wild Rats, and its Pathogenesis in A Guinea Pig Model

ABSTRACT In recent years, mortality due to leptospirosis in dogs has been of major concern in Southwestern Nigeria, but the prevalent serovars, pathology and pathogenesis have not been fully documented. The purpose of this study was to investigate the disease in the dog and reservoir hosts (cattle and wild rats), and its pathogenesis and pathology in a guinea pig model. Between 2003 and 2010, 44 fresh and 60 formalin-fixed kidneys of tentatively diagnosed cases of canine leptospirosis obtain...

Prevalence and Risk Factors Associated with Abomasal Nematodes Infection in Slaughtered Sheep in Khartoum State, Sudan

A cross sectional study was conducted from February to May 2017 to investigate the prevalence of abomasal nematodes infection and to assess the relationship between the occurrence of these parasites and factors of age, sex, locality, body condition and breed in slaughtered sheep in Khartoum State, Sudan. A total of 350 abomasi were collected from three slaughterhouses namely: Karary, Nasr eldeen and Sabaloga in Karary, East Nile and Umbada localities respectively, and examined using pos...

There are few reported quantitative assessment of meat-borne antibiotic residues and resistant pathogens in southwestern Nigeria. Antibiotics usage in food animal production, antimicrobial residues screening, prevalence of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and levels of oxytetracycline residue in chicken and beef from Lagos, Ibadan...

An Evaluation Of Selected Brachiaria Cultivars On The Weight Change Of Galla Goats In The Coastal Lowlands

ABSTRACT Inadequate and erratic rainfall in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) of Kenya that are accompanied by long dry spells lead to drought. This leads to low feed availability. Inadequate quality and quantity of feeds is the major constraint to livestock production in the ASALs of Kenya. It is the major input factor to livestock production and accounts for 60-70% of the production cost. There is therefore a need to introduce climate smart forage species in order to expand the forage re...

An Evaluation Of Brachiaria Grass Cultivars Productivity In Semi Arid Kenya

ABSTRACT The scarce and low nutritive livestock forage resource base in semi arid Kenya limits livestock production in these regions. The major factor contributing to this situation is inadequate and erratic rainfall patterns accompanied by long dry spells often culminating into drought. To exploit the full potential of the ASALs for livestock production there is need to expand the forage resource base through introduction of climate smart forage species. This study was carried out to evaluat...
