Maudhui Na Mtindo Katika Ushairi Wa Watoto: Uchanganuzi Wa Utenzi Wa Haki Za Watoto Na Mashairi Bulbul

ABSTRACT

Themes and styles are two aspects that complement each other in poetry. This reseach aims to show how these two aspects manifest themselves in selected collections of children’s Kiswahili poetry. To accomplish this, the reseacher utilized purposive sumpling to select the verses and stanzas that elicit various themes from selected anthologies. These anthlogies are, Utenzi wa Haki za Watoto (Abbas, 2003) and Mashairi Bulbul (Ahmed, 2010). The specific objectives of the reseach are: To identify the themes used in the selected children’s poetry books, to specify the stylistic devices used by the writers and to demonistrate how the poets have successfully managed to communicate to the audience. The research used two theories. These are; The Realism theory by Hegel and the stylistic theory by Coombes. The Realism theory was to analyse themes in the poems and the stylistic theory shall to analyse language as an important tool in understanding the message in the poems. To achieve this, purposive sampling was used to select stanzas that were analysed in the selected books. Data was collected frtom these texts and analysed descriptively in line with the objectives, research questions and be guided by the relevant tenets of the theories underguarding the reseach. Findings are presented descriptively in five chapters.
