ABSTRACT
The possible roles of temperature and nutrientson Primary productivity of the Middle Reaches of Otamiri River in the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria was investigated between October and November, 2016. Ten sampling points (OTP1 – OTP10) sited about 50m apart were studied. The light and dark bottle technique was used for the estimation of primary productivity and in situ measurements was made for water temperature. Other parameters were determined using standard methods. The descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation (r), linear regression, ANOVA and Duncan multiple range test were used to analyze data. Maximum yields in Gross Primary productivity (GPP) (0.8738mgCL-1 d -1 ), Net Primary Productivity (NPP) (0.8513mgCL-1 d -1 ) and Community Respiration (CR) (0.1613 mgCL-1 d -1 ) were recorded at OTP3, OTP3 and OTP8 respectively. The variability of GPP increased with increasing temperature, nitrate, phosphate and sulphate ion concentrations.
