Training and Staff Performance in Selected NGOs in Uganda

ABSTRACT 

The main purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between training and staff performance in selected NGOs of Action Aid International Uganda and Plan International Uganda. The objectives of the study were to establish the profile of respondents in terms of age, education, gender and level of experience in selected NGOs., to determine the degree of training on the staff performance in selected NGOs in Uganda, to examine the level of staff performance in selected NGOs in Uganda, to determine if there is a significant relationship between training and staff performance in selected NGOs in Uganda, to recommend strategies that will further enhance the staff performance based on the findings of the study. The study employed a descriptive correlation design. Relevant data was collected using research questionnaires. The target population was 200 and sample size was 133 respondents. The research revealed that there is a significant relationship between training and staff performance in the selected NGOs in Uganda. The following were recommendations from the study; introduction of a comprehensive orientation/induction programmes for new staff, organize advanced workshops and refresher courses for employees and periodically review incentive and benefit schemes. In brief, whereas training impacts on staff performance, there other factors like work environment that affect performance too. Therefore management in organizations should not only focus on training staff alone but also try to meet other staff needs like increase payments to boost performance thus organizational growth and development
