Shear Behaviour of Reinforced Concrete Beams Using Granite As Coarse Aggregate Without Shear Links

This work considers the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams using granite as coarseaggregate without shear links. Four reinforced concrete beams were cast and tested to understandthe shear behavior with varying tension reinforcement ratios. The beams were cast in two pairs;the first pair had a depth of 184mm, a width of 110mm, and a length of 1500mm. The second pairhad a depth of 150mm, a width of 90mm, and a length of 1000mm. The first and second pair ofbeams had span-to-depth ratios...

Investigation on the mechanical properties of sagbama aggregate (flexural property)

ABSTRACT This study investigation on the mechanical properties of Sagbama rice granite was analyzed to determine the load that would cause ultimate flexural stress on the material when used in concrete construction .This is necessary to make decision on where it is suitable for use. This study requires the production of 12 concrete beams of 100mmx100mmx500mm with sagbama rice granite as coarse and fine aggregate. Three (3) specimens were produced to be tested at 7, 14, 21 and 28days.Mix rat...

Politics and Morality

INTRODUCTION The morality of politics is an inescapable issue for philosophers, politicians, and common citizens. It is particularly pressing in times like ours, when dramatic developments put under severe strain moral constraints on political action, while our trust in politicians is sorely tried by their words and actions. This book is a timely contribution from prominent philosophers to the public debate, exploring the fundamental problem of the relationship of politics and morality a...

Flexural Performance of Bamboo Reinforced Foamed Aerated Concrete Beams With and Without Compression Reinforcement

AbstractThe results of investigation conducted to evaluate the flexural performance of foamed aerated concrete beams with bamboo splints as tensile reinforcement, but with and without shear links are reported in this paper. The properties assessed are: density, compressive strength, crack pattern, deflection, and failure and moments. Foamed aerated concrete, having a cement-sand ratio of 1:3 was prepared. For foam generation, foaming agent and water in the ratio of 1:33 was prepared. A total ...

Effect of Foam Concentration on Structural Characteristics of Steel Reinforced Aerated Concrete Beams

ABSTRACT This work presents the results of investigation conducted to evaluate the effect of foam concentration on the structural properties of steel- reinforced foamed aerated concrete beams. The properties investigated were the density, compressive strength, shear strength, and flexural strength. Relationships between compressive strengths and densities were developed, as well as comparison between the compressive strengths and the shear strengths. The foam concentrate/water ratios adopted ...

REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN OF EIGHT STOREY HOSTEL TO BS8110-1:1997 IN DUTSE CITY, JIGAWA STATE, NIGERIA (COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN)

Abstract This project outlines the structural design of eight-storey reinforced concrete hostel building following British standard, BS: 8110, part 1, 1997 “Structural use of Concrete”. The project aimed at producing structural design of eight storey hostel. The research was achieved based on the objectives of; developing structural layout from the architectural drawings; analyzing and designing the structural elements with some degree of economic consideration and producing the structura...

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERIZED TRAFFIC OFFENCE SYSTEM

CHAPTER ONE1.0 INTRODUCTIONComputerised Traffic Offence System is a powerful web based and database program that records all the traffic offences committed nationwide. The system helps the Federal Road Safety Commission keep adequate records of all traffic offences that has been committed and that will still be committed by road users and also maintain the databases of the commission (FRSC).1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDYPrior to the establishment of Federal Road Safety Commission in 1988, there ...

Analysis Of Business Objective And Their Accomplishment Through Effective Cost Control (A Case Study Of Lake Concrete Industries Limited, Enugu State)

ABSTRACT This study is centered on the analysis of business objective and their accomplishment through effective cost control in lake concerted industry-limited Enugu. There are lots of problem that face the industry, some of which are shortage of raw materials, excessive demand, ineffective stock planning and inefficient stock management. The study therefore embarked on how the industry should form a strong stock management policy thereby forming a stock management committee that will monit...

STRUCTURAL/REINFORCEMENT DETAILING OF A SINGLE STOREY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING WITH RETAINING WALL

PREFACEThis is the presentation of an information on the structural reinforcement detailing of concrete members.  Structural detailing is a branch of structural work that transposes the idea or works of a structural engineer into working drawing or easy utilization in the building construction works.  Working drawing are produced an engineer for easy use by the contractors. The processes detailing put in place was in conjunction with the recommendations of the concrete society and the instit...

Biocontainment of PCBs on Flat Concrete Surfaces and Coprecipiyation of PCBs and Metals in Boiler Chemical Cleaning Wastewater By Microbial Carbonate Precipitation

Some industrial equipment such as electric tranformers and capacitors are located in vaults and substations on flat concrete surfaces. Due to accidents, normal routine maintenance, or replacements, this equipment may spill oil that may contain PCBs on these surfaces. These spills must be cleaned up in accordance with United States Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) guidelines. Current cleanup operations are abiotic in nature, encompassing both physical and chemical methods. These metho...

THE SPONSORSHIP OF JAZZ MUSICAL CONCERTS BY CORPORATE ORGANIZATIONS IN GHANA: A CASE OF STANBIC BANK GHANA

ABSTRACT Sponsorship of musical concerts by corporate organisations has over the years become a common practise used to communicate to a specific target group. This approach has helped corporate organisations present themselves to more clients and improve the perception held of the brand. Ghana has over the years experienced this practise of sponsoring musical concerts growing among its organisations. One of such sponsorships that sparked an interest was Stanbic Bank’s sponsorship of Jazz M...

A Survey of Livestock Strcutures in South Western Nigeria

ABSTRACT A survey involving the use of structured questionnaires and personal communication was undertaken in South Western Nigeria to identify the livestock in the area, and their housing methods.. Chicken, pigs, rabbits, goats, sheep and cattle were the  major animals found while the housing structures include baskets, battery cages, deep litter houses, cages, hutches, eggs, sheds and yards. In about half of the sites surveyed animals kept were not provided with housing, while in other pla...

Estimation of Indoor Radon from Concrete Blocks Used In Construction of Wall in Typical Nigerian Dwellings

ABSTRACT Radon gas is the most important source of natural radiation. Indoor radon concentration is the main path of human exposure to high radon concentration. Radon contribution from concrete block walls of typical Nigerian dwellings has been estimated from gamma ray spectroscopy measurements of radium concentration using generic equation. The radon concentrations varied from 11.27 Bq m-3 for a dwelling of dimensions 4.8 m × 4.8 m and 18.52 Bq m-3 for a dwelling of 3.6 m × 3.6 m. The eff...
