Flexible Agar Devices for Imaging and Testing Worm Parasites

In this paper, we explore the use of microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (lPADs) to study the behavior of Caenorhabditis elegans. We show how these devices can be fabricated on paper and plastic substrates, as well as how to load, visualize, and transfer single and multiple nematodes. We also demonstrate the use of anthelmintic drug, levamisole, to perform chemical testing on C. elegans. Furthermore, we provide a custom program that is able to recognize individual worms on the lPADs i...

C0VID-19 Test Methods and kits

We address the current situation of population-wide and speedy testing for SARS-CoV-2 and review different technologies available, such as molecular and rapid antigen tests, serology and antibody tests, and tests for managing COVID-19 patients. We consider products authorized by the FDA to diagnose and detect COVID-19 infections. This review covers pooled testing, screening programs, and surveillance testing to enable quicker screening. We also discuss the potential challenges in terms of det...

Long term imaging of bacterial colonies

Bacterial populations grown in a lab environment are typically seen as homogeneous in terms of growth rate, size, and content. However, recent findings have shown that even during exponential growth phase, these cells can be heterogeneous. This has important consequences for how bacteria respond to stressors such as antibiotics. For example, the concept of antimicrobial persistence is linked to a small subpopulation of cells that enter a dormant state where antibiotics are no longer effective...

Electrotaxis

A nonmechanical, unidirectional valve, the Nematode Electrotactic-Response Valve (NERV), has been developed to control the motion of Caenorhabditis elegant (C. elegans) in microfluidic devices. By forming a region of lateral electric field, which can be switched or reversed, the NERV prevents worms from advancing through it if the field lines are angled against the movement of the worms. Upon arriving at the boundary of the NERV, the worms penetrate the field area briefly and then retreat and...

Design and Construction of 3 Standard Lead Electrocardiogram Monitoring System

ABSTRACT The challenge posed by cardiovascular disease and the associated casualties has taken a centre stage in policies relating to global health and wellbeing. A lot of technological innovations have been made in this direction with attendant challenges. A standard ECG machine was constructed using affordable locally sourced discrete components to achieve the same objective. Simple Operational Amplifiers, few discrete components, signal pick-up devices and power source were assembled to a...

PRODUCTION OF SOAP USING CHAMOMILE OIL

SOAP PRODUCTION USING CHAMOMILE OIL Background of the studyWhat is soap? Soaps are divided into two main types: Toilet and Industrial. These are few definition of soap. One of definition, soap is an alkali metal salt of a long-chain fatty acid and is manufactured using vegetable and animal fats. Besides, soap is a chemical compound or mixture of chemical compounds forming from the interaction of fatty acids and alkaline solution. The alkaline solutions often called lye usually used in making s...

AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE ON PATHOLOGY OF COVID 19

ABSRACT  Covid 19, a disease which created havoc in the world by its severe acute respiratory corona virus syndome-2 [SARS-coV-2], rigorous studies have been taking place to study the cause, pathogenesis, symptoms, treatment protocols of the disease. Ayurveda has considered it as a type of a janapadodhwamsa , the infection is caused due to virus which in Ayurveda is considered as, bhuta[microbes] which is a agantuja hetu [external factors]  This jivanu/microbe enters the body and affects ...

Prevalence Of Asymptomatic Bacteriuria And Antimicrobial Susceptibility Among Women Attending Antenatal Clinic Of Gatundu Hospital In Kiambu County, Kenya

ABSTRACT Asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy is associated with risk of preterm birth and pyelonephritis if untreated. The apparent decline in immunity of pregnant women appears to promote the growth of both commensal and non-commensal microorganisms. Women with asymptomatic bacteria in the early pregnancy develop symptomatic bacteriuria later in pregnancy. The incidence of antibiotic resistance has been steadily increasing over the past few years resulting in limitation of therapeutic...

Auditory Screening Of Basic School Children: A Comparison Of Pure-Tone Audiometry And Impedance Audiometry

ABSTRACT Background: School age children are faced with various forms of sensory disorders which impair academic, social and functional development. One of the most prevalent forms of sensory disorder is hearing loss. Auditory screening serves as an important process in identifying children with undetected hearing loss. The use of pure-tone audiometry has been the back bone of assessing children. In Ghana, auditory screening of school children has not been efficient due largely to the scarci...

Design Of Emergency And Trauma Hospital From A Biomedical Engineer Perspective

Abstract This project is Design of a hospital for emergency and trauma services in order to improve the healthcare services and to eliminate the emergency department deficiency . The design depend on the interviews and visits held in different facilities were the data collected and analysed to build the appropriate design. A plan has been drawn up to provide the hospital with all the required equipment in every single department as shown in the design model. The simulation program (ARCHICAD) w...

Impact of Adoption of Koryat Plough on Groundnuts Production )A Case Study Ghubish Locality-West Kordofan state)

Abstract The effect of the adoption of koryat plough on the production of peanuts (groundnuts) in Ghbeish locality. the importance of studying : The peanut is the main cash crop in ghbeish locality and is the main feed for animal feeding, especially sheep, as is the result of the source contributes to national income, so it is necessary to stand on the effect of the adoption of the use of farmers to the koryat plough and then put proposals and appropriate solutions. Study Society: The study ...

Study Of The Internal Derangement Of The Knee Using Ultrasound And MRI

Abstract   Musculoskeletal sonography is rapidly evolving modality which is gaining popularity for the evaluation and management of joint and soft tissue disorder the purpose of this exhibit was to study the internal derangement of the knee using ultrasound and MRI. All patients (50 patients) were scanned by MRI 1.5 Tesla as standard and by ultrasound using high linear frequency transducer. The study took place in Sudan Khartoum 2014-2015. The part examined in the knee include meniscuses (La...

Measurement of Prothrombin Time, Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time, Fibrinogen Concentration, Platelets count and indices in healthy police dogs in Sudan

ABSTRACT The study aimed to determine the normal values of Prothrombin Time (PT) Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT), Fibrinogen Concentration (FIB), platelets count (PLT), mean platelets volume (MPV), plateletcrit (PCT) and platelet distribution width (PDW) for healthy police dogs in Sudan and to assess the effect of breed and sex on these parameters. Forty six dogs were used; 20 Labrador Retriever and 26 German Shepherd dogs comprising 21 males and 25 females, 20-83 months old. Bl...

Computerized Central Blood Bank Management System

Abstract Blood is a vital constituent in human body that is indispensable for human life, it supplies nutrient and oxygen to all body cells, because of this essential role, blood bank was introduce in this research to help in collecting, separating and storing blood by using computerized information system to organized and maintain information about donors, and blood groups. Manual systems as compared to computerized systems are time consuming and costly, in addition to human errors. A comp...
