AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PROBLEMS AFFECTING THE SUCCESS OF SOCIAL INTERVENTION PROGRAMMES IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The basic aim of this project is to carry out an investigation into the problems affecting the success of Social intervention programs in Nigeria. It has been the conviction of thee research to know what problems usually hinder the survival of governments social intervention programs in Nigeria and bring forth, possible suggestion toward solving the problems.

          To achieve this therefore, this research work has been  carried out in some selected government agencies and private establishment the kano metropolis. A total of  forty 40 establishment were cited for use  however, a sample size of eight [8] establishments was used to time constraint. The  sample technique was based on any establish with an odd number from the population  in which was already arranged in alphabetic order. The instrument for this research is research questionnaires containing 10 items drawn from the research questions structured for Yes, No or UNCERTAIN.

The findings of this research were as follows

i-                   Lack of awareness by the people about the introduction of such programs

ii-                Improper  implementation of the programs

iii-              Lack adaisical attitude of the people toward the programs

iv-              Government policies by the successive administrations

The research therefore concluded that though social intention programs are usually meant to alleviate poverty, Nigerians are still stagering in poverty since these programs do not always survive.
