ASSESSMENT OF THE UTILIZATION OF SCHOOL LIBRARY RESOURCES BY SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN RIMI COLLEGE KADUNA STATE

This study examined the “assessment of the utilization of school library resources by secondary school students in Rimi College” and the objectives of the study were to examine the use of libraries by secondary school students in Rimi College Kaduna. Specifically, the study intends to identify the types of information resources available in Rimi College Library, Kaduna. To find out the extent to which students in Rimi College make use of resources in the school library. To identify the challenges faced by students while using school library in Rimi College, Kaduna. The study was conducted using the case study methods of interviews and observation. The findings revealed that the library collection included textbooks, story books, computers with internet services but lack adequate furnitures to carter for the growing population of the students. The findings also revealed that the students make use of the library but only during breaks and when they have computer classes and that the major challenges that the students face are that of inaccessibility, unawareness and lack of stimulated time for prep. Recommendation was drawn from the findings, with the hope that if implemented, it will by any means enhance the utilization of library resources by secondary school students. There is the need to provide more comfortable and appropriate tables and chairs to cater for the increasing number of users the library is expected to accommodate. The researcher also recommends that there should be library periods and students should be allowed to use the library when they have free periods. The researcher suggests that there should be awareness creation about the library resources and their uses.
