The study topic was "Causes of school dropouts in lower primary classes in Petete Sub county,

lde Sub county, Butebo District. This topic was selected because of the large numbers of

school dropouts in the area which therefore increases on the level of crime rates. It was

against this background that the researcher attempted to; find out the Causes of school dropouts

in lower primary classes in Petete Sub county, Butebo District. The conceptual framework

of the study suggested that the research be categozied into Independent Variables and

I kpcndent Variables. The researcher used a cross-sectional survey research design because

I he study was intended to pick only some representative sample elements of the cross-section

()1· lhe population. The study was conducted in Petete Sub county, Butebo District. The study

population was composed of all teachers in the three selected schools, Currently enrolled pupi

Is and school dropouts in the district. The sample population in this case was 200 pupils,

25 teachers and 25 school dropouts thereby giving a total of 250 respondents. The methods

11scd in data collection were questionnaires and interviews. The researcher analyzed the qualilative

data collected using structured closed ended items in the questionnaires for each ob_
