THE EFFECTIVENESS

OF ISLAMIC EDUCATION SUBJECTS AMONG MOSLEM STUDENTS

IN RANAU, SABAH

 

 

ABSTRACT

 

The purpose of this study is to increase the in-depth understanding of the effectiveness of Islamic Education Subjects among Moslem students in Ranau, Sabah.  This study focuses on three topics namely i) the role of Islamic subjects ii) problems in the teaching and learning process of Islamic Education and iii) the extent of the effectiveness of Islamic Education to empowering personality among students. Researchers conduct research methods "Survey" in collecting information and data. The types of instruments used are i) questionnaire form that is the understanding of the role and importance of Islamic Education subjects among primary school students, (ii) interview questions that is to find out the perception of Islamic Education subjects among respondents. Apart from that, this study also identifies the problems encountered in the teaching and learning process of Islamic Education subjects in Ranau Secondary School, Sabah. The findings of the study are that the respondents' perception of the role and importance of the subject of Islamic Education is very positive. The results of the study also identified some problems encountered in the implementation of teaching and learning of the subject. The study was conducted in several secondary schools in Ranau, Sabah. This involved 50 parents. The findings also show that the Ministry of Education Malaysia is very concerned about efforts to strengthen the teaching and learning methods of this subject. The statement, which is based on this serious effort, has been clarified in a specific policy, namely the enforcement and implementation of the 1960 Act which makes Islamic Education compulsory for Muslim students. The impact of this study shows that the role and contribution of Islamic Education subjects is in line with the educational needs of the 21st century.
