ABSTRACT

This study examined th e barriers that hinder inclusive education of

hearing impaired children in the selected schools of Kabasis Zone,

Kenya.

The objectives of the study were to assess the relevance of pnmary

education currently offered to children who are hearing impaired; explore

the disability specific challenges of children with h earing impairments

and also to investigate the constraints to the provision of educational

service for children with hearing impairments.

Qualitative and Quantitative Designs were employed where convenient

sampling was used to select the students m the school used for the

study.

The roam instruments used m the data collection were the ·

focus Group discussion guides; the data collected was analyzed manually

where the researcher used descriptive and quantitative analysis , which

included percentages and frequencies.

The findings of the study included among others the fact children with

hearing impairment face a lot of chalienges at school.

This research recommended that govemment stipulates the mm1mum

standards of construction of all ' school buildings to include at least ramps, rails, adoptable toilets and wide classroom doors.
