Factors Contributing to Poor Performance in Kcse in History and Government Examination in Tulwet Secondary School, Wareng District

ABSTRACT This study aimed at finding out the causes of low performance in History and Government in the KCSE examination in Tulwet Secondary School, Wareng District. This is due to the fact that this subject is performed as expected. The researcher's aim was to investigate the teaching materials, students' emolment and their low performance in the subject. To bring this out, the researcher's questions were: did the school have instructional materials? What were eth students' attitude towards History and Government? What were the student-teacher ratio in the subject? Apart from this, the researcher assumed that all students wanted to excel in History and Government and the school needed to have excellent performance in the subject as it was important for other students, teachers and parents. The sample included the headteacher, History teachers and student in form three and form four. This targeted a population of one hundred students whose selected sample was 25% which was 25 students using stratified sampling. Two types of data collection instruments were used, the interview guide for the headteacher consisting of open ended questions and questionnaires with closed ended questions for the History teachers and students.
