APPROACHES AND CHALLENGES OF SCHOOL PUBLIC RELATIONS PRACTICE

Public relations practice in school is carried out through various approaches. These approaches such as; publicity, public enlightenment, persuasion, and dialogue are discussed alongside the challenges of school public relations practice. Strategies to make the practice more efficient and effective are also discussed.

ETHICS, CODE OF CONDUCT, POLICY STATEMENTS AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF SCHOOL PUBLIC REATIONS PRACTICE

Every profession is guided by codes of conduct, public relations is not an exemption. In this article, the definition of public relations ethics and codes of conduct as enacted by The Nigerian Institute Of Public Relationsare paraphrased. The benefits of ethical code of conduct to the school public relations practice and strategies are also discussed. The second segment of the article, discusses the school public relations policy statements and legal implications with samples.

THE SCHOOL PUBLICS

The school publics are individuals, group of individuals or organizations that are interested in the school activities or whom the school activities impact on. Besides, those whose activities impact on school programmes and image are also referred to as the school publics.

The practice of school public relations is grossly misconceived by people and practitioners who entered the profession by chance.  To correct the misconception, an effort is made to define school public relations practice from professional context as enunciated by renowned public relations practitioners and educationists.  Moreover, its goals and benefits are discussed.
