The method is based on the chemical reduction in aqueous copper salt using ascorbic acid as reducing agent at low temperature (80 °C). X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spec...

Momordica foetida phytochemical screening

CHAPTER ONE1.0 INTRODUCTIONBioactive plants are commonly used by traditional healers or in folklore medicines for the relief of pain or some alignments. This act of medication has made some plant families popular (Heinrich 2000; Kuete et al., 2006).The acceptance of traditional medicine as an alternative form of health care has assistedscientists in elevating these claims, by studying the chemical composition and biological potential (Bisignano et al., 1996; Hammer et al., 1999). This has led...

Sorption of refampicin on variable soil

Sorption and desorption of rifampicin was assessed on three different soil. Sorption mechanism was studied in terms of equilibrium and kinetics at different pH. Linear, Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models were adopted to study the isotherm. The experimental data were best described by pseudo-second order kinetics (R2 = 1.00). It was observed that rifampicin absorbs better on soil with lowest organic carbon content. Sorption was observed to increase with decrease in aqueous pH and i...

PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION OF THE ACTIVE COMPONENTS IN BITTER LEAF ROOT (VERNONIA AMYGDALINA) EXTRACTS IN THE TREATMENT OF DIABETES MELLITUS

ABSTRACT This research work is on the preliminary determination of active components in bitter leaf root (vernonia amygdalina) in the treatment of diabetes. Deficiency of hormone (insulin) causes diabetes mellitus, a disease due to too much of sugar being present in the blood. This is because without insulin in the body, the result is that sugar is extracted in the urine. Consequently, fat and proteins are readily converted to carbohydrates and finally, glucose eventually. The body re...
