Instructional Technology and Teaching Effectiveness in Secondary Schools in Mallam — Madori Local Government Area, Jigawa State, Nigeria.

ABSTRACT The study examined the extent to which the use of instructional technology in instruction influences the effectiveness of teaching in secondary schools of Mallam-Madori local government area, Jigawa state, Nigeria. The study was guided by three specific objectives, that included (i)to establish the relationship between the use of audio media technology in instruction and teaching effectiveness in selected Senior Secondary Schools of Mallam Madori Local Government Area, Jigawa State, Nigeria, (ii) to examine the relationship between the use of audio-visual media technology in instruction and teaching effectiveness in selected Senior Secondary Schools of Mallam-Madori Local Government Area Jigawa State Nigeria, and (iii)to assess the relationship between the use of software technology in instruction and teaching effectiveness in selected Senior Secondary Schools of Mallam Madori Local Government Area Jigawa State Nigeria. The study employed a cross sectional survey design because the study covered large sample of respondents which were to be examined once in a short period of time, and descriptive correlation was employed because the researcher wanted to establish the relationship between two variables under the study, the study used a sample size of 150 respondents. This study employed two basic research instruments which include the questionnaire and interview guide, and Frequency tables and percentage distribution was used to determine the profile of the respondents. The mean was use to measure the level of instructional Technology used. And pearson linear correlation coefficient (PLCC) was used to compute the influence of the independent variable to dependent variable. The findings indicated a significant correlation between the use of audio media technology in instruction and teaching effectiveness in selected Senior Secondary Schools of Mallam-Madori Local Government Area, Jigawa State, Nigeria (sig=value =0.000, and r-value=0.353), the findings indicated that the use of audio-visual media technology in instruction has a significant relationship on teaching effectiveness (sig. value=0.000, and r value=.484), the findings proved a significant relationship between the use of software technology in instruction and teaching effectiveness in Senior in the selected Secondary Schools of Mallam-Madori Instructional technology Area Jigawa State Nigeria (sig. value=0.000, and r-value=0.403). The researcher concluded that; that the use of audio media materials improves on the teaching effectiveness, hence confirming that satisfying use of audio media material enhances the teaching effectiveness in the selected Senior Secondary Schools of Mallam-Madori Instructional technology Area, Jigawa State, Nigeria, improvement in the use of audio-visual media technology in instruction increases the teaching effectiveness in the selected Senior Secondary Schools of Mallam-Madori Instructional technology Area Jigawa State Nigeria, and lastly; increase in the use of software technology improves on the level of teaching effectiveness and failure to use software technology reduces it. The researcher recommended that; the management of the selected Senior Secondary Schools of Mallam-Madori Local Government Area Jigawa State Nigeria to provide should make use of tape recorder in instruction, and this will help in the use of audio media materials, should make use of video in instruction during teaching, should make use of school management system software (Eduswift, fedena, moodles, intelliexams, etc) in instruction, and should make sure that emails services and e-bulletin are always used in instruction, hence increasing on teaching effectiveness.
