Investigation of Industrial potential of Amechi Idodo Clay Deposit in Enugu State

The Clay deposits has been investigated for its industrial potentials.  The chemical analysis was determined using Atomic Absorption spectrophotometer (AAS).  The physical properties conducted such as linear shrinkage, apparent density, apparent porosity, bulk density, water absorption and modulus of rupture were conducted using standard technique.  The results on the chemical composition of the clay composed of Al2O3 (29.10%), SiO3 (53.04%), Na2O3 (2.15%), MgO (1.15%), Fe2O3 (1.70%), CaO (1.34%), K2O (1.42%), TiO2 (0.60), MnO (0.32%) and LOI (12.53%).  The physical properties results at 11000C shows that the clay has linear shrinkage (8.84%) apparent density (2.18%), apparent porosity (17.50%), bulk density (1.80g/cm3), bulk density (1.80g/cm3), water absorption (10.96%), modulus of rupture (33.00 kg/cm3) and refractoriness (16680C).  The clay deposits therefore, can be used for the production of ceramic wares and other products like paint, chalk due to its low iron oxide and TiO2.
