Measurement of Common Bile Duct and Pancreatic Duct in Adult using Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)

Abstract

This descriptive crossectional study aimed to measure the normal diameter of the common bile duct and pancreatic duct and correlate this measurement with age and gender.

The study done for 66 patients 33 male and 33 female their age between 10 to 89 years, they selected randomly when they attended to radiology department for performed MRCP. The diameter common bile duct and pancreatic duct were measured from the 2D images of (SSTSE BH). Then the data analyzed by SPSS to find the mean and standard deviations correlations.

The study found the mean of the diameter common bile duct for female of age group (10-29) years were (4.7±0.9 mm) ,(30-49) years were (5.3±1.2mm), (50-60) years were (5.7±0.8mm) and (70-89) years were (5.3±1.6mm), and for male of age group (10-29) years were (4.5±1.2 mm) ,(30-49) years were (5.2±1.3mm), (50-60) years were (5.6±0.7mm) and (70-89) years were (5.5±0.6)mm respectively.

Also the study found correlation between the diameter of common bile duct and both male and female were significant of values P 0.017 and P 0.011 respectively.

The study concluded that the diameter common bile duct for Sudanese similar to compared people and there were significant different between both male and female in diameter of common bile duct.

The study recommended further studies in measuring common bile duct and pancreatic duct with larger sample of population
