PARENTS CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS CHILDRENS' FORMAl EDUCATION A CASE STUDY OF MUKUJU SUB-COUNTY TORORO DISTRICT- UGANDA

ABSTRACT

This study set out to investigate on the parents contribution towards the formal

education of their children in Mukuju Sub-county. The study was guided by the

following objectives: -

(1) To identify the requirements that are important as far as the formal

education is concerned, (2) To determine the reasons why parents

are un able to support the pupils' education and (3) To identify the

strategies that can be used to enable forward education of the pupils

succeed.

The research methodology used the description design, because the standardized

question are to collect the data was used.

Findings, the majority of the respondents were males the age grouping of the majority

was between 46-50 respondents, certificate holders were the majority. The main

reason why parents were un able to support children's education was found to be

poverty.

Conclusion, it is concluded that poverty has contributed to must parents giving up the

education of their children.

RECOMMANDATION : Parents should be able to provide the children with the

school requirements such as scholastic materials. Lunch at school, and requirements

that may be needed for example examination fees among others. By so doing the child

will be retained at school.

Parents should be able to keep on visiting the school in order to be up dated on the

performance of the child.

This if done where there is a gap, the parent together with the teacher may share and

come up with the working strategy.

Parents should make sure that the children do not absent themselves. This negatively

impact on the performance of the child in a way that she/he may not be able to follow

the flow of the Lessons, particularly if the new topic is introduced when she/he was not

there.

The environment at home should be provided by parents in away that if favors a child

education children should be given time to read their books or do home work other

activities that may hinder the children concentrating on education should be controlled.

Parents should prioritize their expenditure. Most of them value activities like drinking

local beer among others. Here a lot of money is spent which can be used in

supporting the education of the children.

The school should make sure that the environment favors the relations of both girls and

boys. Sharing of latrines I toilets by both sexes effect their learning. Privacy therefore

should be observed
