TEACHER MOTIVATION AND THEIR PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS: A CASE STUDY KALIRO TOWN COUNCIL, KALIRO DISTRICT

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of teachers’motivatjon and their

performance in secondary schools in Kaliro town council, Kaliro district. Three research

objectives were formulated to guide the study. The research objectives sought to:find out

different forms of teacher motivation in Kaliro district secondary schools; find out the factors

that influence teacher motivation Kaliro district secondary schools; and to find out the effects of

Motivation on Teacher Performance Kaliro District Secondary Schools. The study adopted a

descriptive survey. The sample was 90 respondents. Data were gathered by use of questionnaires.

The analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS).

On the different forms of Teacher Motivation in Kaliro District Secondary Schools, the study

found that: good remuneration, promotion opportunities, good working condition, sponsorships

for further education, and bonuses were the responses given by the respondents.

On the factors that influence Teacher Motivation in Kaliro District Secondary Schools, the study

found that; need to stay on the job, need to deliver in schools, need for students to pass exams,

need to curb teacher-turnover, and need to improve on the quality teaching were the responses

given by the respondents.

On the effects of motivation on teacher performance in Kaliro District Secondary Schools, the

study found that: better time management, reduced absenteeism, low rate of teacher attrition, and

commitment to work were the responses given by the respondents. Conclusions and

recommendations were later made.
