The Contribution Of Faith-Based Secondary Schools In Teaching Of Moral Education: A Case Study Of Dodoma Urban District

ABSTRACT

The research study is about the Contribution of Faith-Based Secondary Schools to teach Moral Education, and Dodoma Urban District was taken as a case study. The Faith based secondary schools, government, teachers, students, spiritual leaders, communities and individuals are core organs in the reviving, teaching, practicing and sustaining ethics in Dodoma Urban District. The objectives of the study are; to examine how moral education is being taught and promoted in faith-based secondary schools within Dodoma Urban District. Second objective, to examine how students perceive the contribution of the teachings and promotion of moral education in their academic lives at school. Third, to identify the challenges encountered in the teaching and promotion of moral education in faith – based secondary schools. The methodology is done mainly through qualitatively and quantitatively approaches by using questionnaires, interviews, discussion, observations and documentary review. There are parents, guardians, religious leaders and the faith based secondary school teachers are responsible to teach youths and matured people about the importance of ethics, but still there are challenges. There are noted findings in this research study; first, study shows that the schools have an important role to play. Second, study shows that different actors participate in delivering moral education to students. Third, the importance of moral education is not so debatable. The key challenge is that there are only few spiritual leaders to handle the teaching of moral education in the schools. Each finding has a right recommendation to the general readers and government for future capacitating Faith Based secondary schools for the sustainability of ethics and establishing new strategies to make sure ethics continues into the twenty first century.
