Archaeology has unarguably taken the role of empirically researching the origins of people around the world. Origins are considered amongst the African societies as being essential part of people’s identity and as such, stories relating to a people’s origin are told from one generation to another with intents to preserve them for generations yet unborn. Such stories explain aspects of the culture and traditions of the people while highlighting some prowess in their indigenous knowledge system. This article presents reflections on some aspects of the tradition of origin and indigenous knowledge system amongst the Gozaki people of Katsina State. The article is aimed at contributing to the archaeological reconstruction of the history of Gozaki people. The research work adopted oral interviews, ethnographic investigation and consultation of written documents as methods of research. Thus, this paper contributes to the existing body of knowledge on the Gozaki people through a re-examination of their oral histories, material culture and Indigenous Knowledge System.
