Assessment Of The Compassion International Tanzania (CIT) Support On Poverty Reduction Among Orphans And Vulnerable Children (OVC) A Case Of Dodoma Urban District

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted aiming to assess the impact of Compassion International Tanzania (CIT) Support on Poverty Reduction among Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Dodoma Urban District. The specific objectives of the study included, to assess the functioning of the Compassion International Tanzania (CIT) support in poverty reduction, examine the impact of CIT support to registered OVC and to identify the challenges that CIT encounters in supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children in poverty reduction in Dodoma Urban district. This study was mostly qualitative supported by quantitative research approach. It was basically a descriptive research design conducted in four Compassion supported centres. The study was guided by Donor Driven Model (DDM). A total number of 196 respondents were involved in this study, and 5 key informants were consulted. These participants were selected by using both Probability and Non- probability sampling design. Data collection was done using questionnaires, interview guides and focus group discussion.The study found that health service was given high priority as key service offered by Compassion International Tanzania, whereas (100%) of respondents in the study area agreed that they received medical treatments through CIT support. Also the study revealed that there much efforts invested by the CIT in supporting educational achievements in the study area since (84.8%) of the respondents responded that CIT had a great contribution to the cognitive development of their children.Moreover, three issues were revealed to be effected by CIT support, included development of households, and sustainable provision of health services and educational stuffs. The study recommends that there is a need to carry detailed research on challenges facing beneficiaries‟ income growth despite the contribution of compassion support.
