ABSTRACT

The study is to examine the correlation between the level of domestic violence and social development among women. The study had four specific objectives, which included; i) determining the profile of respondents in terms of gender, age, and educational level; ii) to determine the level of domestic violence; iii) to determine the level of social development; and iv) to determine the relationship between domestic violence and social development among women, employed quantitative, descriptive correlation survey. It was correlation in that it describes the relationship between the levels of counseling and extent of home based care among young delinquents living with HIV/AIDS.The findings indicated that most respondents (50%) were females, aged between 20-29 years, majority were diploma holders(46%).The level of competition was generally high with mean (3.0484) and the level of social development was generally low (overall mean=2.474).And findings also indicated a positive significant

relationship between counseling and home based care (r=0.897, sig. =0.000) the higher the domestic violence, the lower the social development, and the reverse is true. From the findings and the conclusions of the study, the researcher recommends that there is need to introduce new laws concerning women rights, this will reduce on the high levels of domestic violence on women by the men in Kampala district (ii) Women should be sensitized and mobilized to take leadership position so that they can use their leadership position to advance gender equality, which will also reduce on the high levels of domestic violence on women in Kampala district (iii) The researcher still recommends that there is need to create new jobs majorly for women, this will improve on the social development of women in Kampala district iv) Despite of all these challenges, women have been proved to achieve many things through government mobilization in the social development activities. This is because women in Kampala district are active, hardworking and trustworthy. They are the active human resources and donors or sponsors of most of the resources needed for the implementation of the project, especially in the religious based projects v).The researcher also recommended that women should acquire self awareness, life skills from their institutions that are women right's office.
